What NOT to do.

If anyone out there wants to know what NOT to do in the situation that one of your animals is hurt, I'm the person to come to. My dog, who is a part of my heart, a part of our family, was hurt very badly last week. So of course I started right away with doing everything wrong. This is what I did:
1. I went into panic mode.
2. I didn't clean the wound properly.
3. I got someone to staple the wound shut. (It was huge by the way)
4. I covered the wound and kept it covered so that the dog could not chew the staples out and open the wound.

What I should have done:
1. Stay calm.
2. Clean the wound with Betadine.
3. Leave the wound open even though it looks like it needs to be sewn shut. You have to realize that there just is going to be a huge scar. It is that or a dead dog.
4. Let the dog lick the wound and let it be open to the air.
5. Get the dog on an antibiotic.

Thank goodness, I learned the right way in time. My dog is doing okay. Yesterday he was draining infection. Today I have hope. He is on the antibiotic and he has torn the wound wide open and cleaned it all out. Who knew that dogs are better doctors for themselves than any human.
So... live and learn.

Blogging Versus Facebook

I know that I am probably backwards on this subject. I really don't have any idea how most people feel. But the way I look at it Facebook is for news. I find out the most interesting things on there. I love it. But Blogging is for musing in a way. I guess I do a little of that on Facebook too, but not so much as here. I figure that this blog is somewhat like a journal. It is something that someday my posterity may get a kick out of. I hope so. But facebook is not the place to put all of this because it isn't for the public eye. I know that my blog can be viewed by anyone who finds it, but not many will really find this blog interesting enough to stop and read. That is okay with me. Like I said, this is mostly for my family and friends. I love ya Facebook, but blogging has my heart.
